Storm Damage
What this involves.
North Texas takes hail every spring, and a bad afternoon can put a whole subdivision on the same claim cycle. What it does to a roof is rarely dramatic. Hail loosens granules, cracks the mat under a bruise, and breaks seals that then let wind under a shingle six months later. That is why a roof can be finished and not leak for a year.
Our part is the evidence. We get on the roof, photograph what is up there, mark the test squares, and put the measurements and the scope into the form an adjuster expects to read. When the adjuster comes out, we answer the scope questions and hand over the photographs and the estimate, so the damage gets counted once rather than argued about after the check arrives. And if what is up there will not support a claim, we say so before you file, which is a better outcome than a denial on your record.
How It Works
The inspection
We get on the roof and photograph what is up there. If it will not carry a claim, that is where this stops, and it has still cost you nothing.
The claim
If it is worth filing, you call your carrier, because it is your policy and they will only talk to you. We put the photographs, the measurements and the scope into the form an adjuster expects.
The adjuster
When the adjuster walks the roof we are there to answer the scope questions and hand over the estimate, so the damage gets counted once instead of argued about after the check arrives.
The work
Roof first, then whatever else the claim covers: the gutters, the fence, the garage door, the ceiling the water came through and the paint over it.
Before You Call
Storm Damage, answered.
How soon after a storm should I have it looked at?
Sooner is better, because most policies put a deadline on reporting and because damage that sits gets harder to attribute to one storm. The inspection is free either way, so there is nothing lost in finding out it was fine.
Will my premium go up if I file?
Insurance companies do not raise an individual household’s rate because of a storm damage claim. Widespread storm activity in your area may affect premiums for all homeowners.
A roofer knocked on my door the morning after the storm. Should I sign?
Not on the spot. Ask him for an address in this county and a certificate of insurance before he goes up. Crews travel into North Texas after a big hail event and leave when the work dries up, and a warranty is worth exactly as long as the company holding it stays.
What if my claim gets denied?
You can ask for a second inspection or bring in a public adjuster, and additional documentation is what changes the outcome. It is also why the photographs get taken properly the first time.
Do you handle the claim for me?
You file it, because it is your policy and your carrier will only talk to you. We supply the evidence, the scope and the estimate, and we are there for the adjuster’s inspection.
